America lives by truck! Trucks are on the road 24 hours a day, every day of the year, carrying everything our nation needs. Our country depends on the trucking industry to deliver its goods.
As we move toward the future, our communities will rely even more on swift and efficient trucking service, as our economy demands it.
A serious driver shortage is developing that could disrupt our fine-tuned distribution system.
It is not a shortage of goods or shortage of equipment. Surprisingly, it is a shortage of qualified men and women who drive trucks.
• The transportation industry is the second largest employer in America, second only to agriculture.
• The average take-home pay for an over-the-road driver is among the highest in America.
• The trucking industry expects to hire about 5 million new drivers before 2010, or about 400,000 new drivers every year (according to the American Trucking Association).
• The field is wide open to women and minorities.
• Improvements in equipment have greatly reduced the need for truck drivers to be “big and strong” in order to operate a heavy truck. The industry needs bright, energetic, and professionally trained men and women who have developed a strong desire to succeed.
• Driver wages are increasing and trucking companies are offering more and better benefits to attract and keep good drivers.
• A career as a professional tractor- trailer driver can offer security and financial rewards to those men and women who have the skills and desire to be successful.
The prospects for a promising and exciting career in professional truck driving have never been better! If you are at least 21 years of age, have a good driving record, and can pass a physical examination then you may qualify to join our student body. It would be our pleasure to have you join us as a student and experience for yourself the satisfaction of learning what it takes to keep America on the move.
